Since implementation of ISO 9001 the awareness and assurance of quality are growing demands and urgent required in all areas of heat treatment. The compliance of tight tolerances in the whole production line, beginning at the material composition, the mechanical treatment, till heat treatment is requirements for modern production processes. The achieved progress in the development of sensors of the last year facilitates new potentials for process management and quality assurance in heat treatment. First and foremost, the task for the development of the O2-Sensor was a simple use and already well known measurement principles in the gas analytic so that it is able to be used also in the hard circumstances of a vacuum furnace. Even at vacuum processes it is important to know whether there is remaining oxygen in the furnace. While using the oxygen sensor the proof of a safe process can be determined. The signal of the oxygen sensor allows setting process specific limit values, which are able to generate actions, e.g. abort of the process or start of emergency purging etc. The signal of the oxygen sensor is not dependant on pressure...
